Election

This election has touched many a nerve…including some of mine :).

At the end of the day, we have to get down  to the basics…

  1. We have to pray.  If we pray earnestly, God will lead us in our voting.
  2. We have to remember that He is in charge, no matter who is elected.
  3. We  have to remember:
  • There is not a perfect candidate…there’s just not.
  • There is not one perfect human being…and one human being will lead our country…it’s just so
  • There is one candidate who has more of what you value than the rest…there just is.

For me, I have 3 big reasons in wanting the world to change…and they ride in my car with me everyday.  I want the world better for them, starting with this country.

For me, I also have 3 important values that I display on my car that ride “with me” everyday.  Pro-God, Pro-Gun, Pro-Life.  There is only one candidate that meets all of those criteria.  Not a perfect candidate by any means…but one who wants things to change.

You may have different criteria.  That doesn’t bother me as much as it might bother others.  But I will plead with you, as I have on here before.  Please pray before you vote!  And listen to what God tells you…even if it goes against what you “think”…do what He knows.

The Blame Game

  • I am assuming that all the people criticizing the parents (whose child was ripped away from them by an alligator they never saw coming, who they watched leave them never to come back as they fought desperately to hold on)…I am assuming these criticizers never took their children swimming (or wading) in the ocean where with or without signs we know there are sharks in great quantities.

  • Wondering why Christianity is such a big deal to those who don’t agree with it.  Why are you so desperate to throw Jesus out of everything, to get rid of God from a country built on His laws?  Fear is the only answer to that question.  What are you afraid of?

  •  Why is it that the president felt it so desperate to leave his family vacation to talk to the country (or scold us…tsk tsk) about “global warming” but wouldn’t leave a baseball game when terrorists attacked Brussels?

  • Why are most people still convinced that guns are the enemy instead of the people shooting them?  And why are they convinced that if we ban them the people who shouldn’t have them now, will suddenly not be able to get ahold of them when more laws are put in place…and the ones who are safe with them will be left defenseless?

I don’t know what these questions spark in you, but in me it seems like we all (yes I include myself, even if not on these specific issues) are desperate to find someone to blame for every tragedy, accident, or uncool thing that happens in our lives.  Let’s start to look at ourselves before looking at another.  Let’s have some personal responsibility for what we do or say.  Let’s start thinking before adding to drama or trauma.  Let’s put blame where it is due…because yes, if a mass shooting occurs we should blame the shooter, but if a lightning bolt strikes a man on a golf course 3 states away from where his parents live, we should not blame the parents for raising him to get hit by lightning.  And let’s turn to a God who loves us instead of running away from Him.  If that’s not your kind of thing, give it a shot, just for a day…take all your problems to God.  Let’s band together and really know what we are fighting for or against, and who is with us and who is against us.

Back to our roots

What’s right and what’s wrong?  How do we know how we are supposed to act and what  we are supposed to believe?  The Bible warns us that as the years pass, good will be called evil and evil will be called good.  Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Isaiah 5:20

For those who don’t believe in the Bible, things get even more confusing, because you are already following the laws of the Bible.  Do not murder, do not steal, do not commit adultery, etc…originate in the Bible.  If you have even the slightest feeling that these are wrong things then how can you pick and choose what laws from the Bible to follow and what laws from the Bible not to follow?   If there is any part of the holy book that is true, why wouldn’t the whole book be true?  And why could every person be able to pick and choose which parts he/she would choose to believe?  If every person is able to choose whichever parts he/she wants to obey, what prevents someone from choosing that they don’t have to follow the 10 commandments; that it is okay to kill, steal and cheat…?

Our country was founded by God fearing men and women (yes, I am aware of the controversy trying to prove this not to be, but the documents speak for themselves).  Our country’s roots are based on the Bible.  While some would like to say that the Bible would change with the times, I would have to refer them to the paragraph above.  How do we pick and choose what should last through the years and what should fall to the wayside.  Are we all really willing to risk allowing people to choose evil and tell them they are making good choices?  I do emphasize choices, because just as we guide a child down the right path, we still love that child, even when they do wrong.  We still love children even if we disagree with them.  People haven’t changed so much over time that they aren’t still people.  We should love everyone and help them to have light and be light in the world.  I think that some people equate love with agreement and it is far from the same.  My heart breaks most for some people I disagree with the most!

I am not always eloquent in my writing, especially when I am trying to get points across..haha!  But the following videos are amazing and I urge you to watch them.  Whether or not you agree with them, or me, just give them a chance.  I think they will at least stretch your mind regardless of what you believe.  It is not hard for you to know that I believe in the Bible, that I believe our country needs to return to its roots, that I believe in Jesus as Savior!  But watch these videos and make your own decisions. 🙂

VOTING

I am sure many, if not most, of you who read this will not be voting the same way I am.  Surprisingly to you, I’m okay with that.  🙂

I do have two small little requests for you:

  1. VOTE: So many people complain about who gets into office and they don’t get out and vote.  Please vote.
  2. PRAY: and listen to the response.  If everyone actually took a little time to pray (myself included) before voting, I have a feeling no matter what the outcome, we’d all feel a lot better about it.

There are so many issues to consider when voting, so many important issues.  When I look at the issues, my values need to line up with them.  God will let rise and fall who He will.  He is the author of this life.  If I try to go against His will where will I be?  (Not that I am anywhere perfect in that area…I am human too…and very thankful He has patience with me!)

One of the issues that is closest to my heart is that of abortion.  A lot of people write me off as having a biased opinion since we lost a child before birth.  They think it helps me legitimize Joshua’s life as a real life.  I call that a pretty bogus thought for two reasons.  One is that I have been prolife passionate since I was in middle school…not brainwashed by anyone, just a passion God put in my heart.  Two, Joshua’s life is legitimate and I don’t need anyone who doesn’t want to believe that to change their mind for me.  I pray that their hearts may someday change, but it doesn’t make or break my life.

Children, sadly, have never been seen as holding great value.  In the time when Jesus was on earth He made a point to tell people that they need to care for children, to accept them and that they are to be valued.

Mark 9:35-37

35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

If it is important enough to be in the Bible, important enough for Jesus to speak of, then it probably is pretty important as a voting issue.  Just something to consider on the way to the polls…

Martyrs

As we approach Easter weekend…Good Friday, remembering our Savior being beaten and killed for our sins, Resurrection Sunday…knowing He still lives and He has overcome, I thought reviewing this strong courage and faith seemed appropriate.

The strength, courage and faith of these 21 men could only be given by Christ.  They encompass what we all hope we would do in that situation.  They faced the fear, the pain, the anguish not with timidity, but with singing and praising the Lord.  And moments after, they joined their Savior in eternal perfection of Heaven.

Maybe the most amazing part of this story is that there was one man taken with the group of Christians who was not a Christian.  He, however, chose their same fate after seeing their faith.  He saw their faith and knew their God (our God, the only God) is real.  He gave his life to Christ moments before joining Christ in His Kingdom.

When we go into this weekend, we praise the Lord for giving us earthly examples of incredible faith.  We also praise Him for being the only One through Whom we can be saved.  He paid the ultimate price…pain, suffering, death on the cross, taking every sin of all of ours onto Himself.  There has never been greater pain, and He took it for us to offer us a way to Heaven.  He is the ONLY way.  Not anything good we do, but knowing we are not good enough and giving our lives, ourselves, to Him.

Remember His sacrifice this weekend, remember His love, remember His daily grace and mercy.  And talk to Him…thank Him…give yourself up to Him.

Its about time

Since it has been around a year since I have been on here, I thought it was well past time to get back in the game.  🙂

What a way to start than with this:

The word you are looking for is…”ahhh…maaaaa…zing!”

This awesome creation by McCormick and Schmick’s graced my plate yesterday in all its splendor.  It is huge!  At least to me.  The size of the picture doesn’t do it justice.  It is truly a delicious piece of art filled with mousse and the raspberry sauce on the bottom is delicious!  I would recommend to anyone and everyone.

We then made our way to see Allegiant…which sadly I would not recommend to anyone and everyone.  My husband enjoyed it, but has not read the book.  Very futuristic…almost to the sci-fy realm.  I, being a HARD CORE Divergent fan, am not enjoying all the artistic liberties being put into the films.  This last one is completely different than the book, changed, not just missing parts.  However, it is entertaining.

That’s it for now!  Figured I would start with a nice light, yummy post before delving into politics and such on my first blog back in action.

😉

God and the world

The world is a mess.  I don’t know of many people who deny that.  Morals have become distorted, God is forbidden in some places (apparently by those who think He can be told what to do), and people are more selfish than they have ever been it seems.  In the midst of the craziness our job is to TRUST HIM.

We trust Him in our lives, with our marriages, with our children, with our homes and our jobs.  We need to TRUST HIM.  That does not mean that our lives will go exactly as we want them to go.  He has warned us in His Word that we will have trouble in our lives.  It does mean that when everything falls apart we still trust that He is good all the time.

When families crumble, when people leave, when children die, when loved ones do not turn to Him, when commitments are broken, when our hearts our broken, we still hold onto His promises that …

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

and

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)

In this world that is a crazy mess, He has already overcome.  Our job is to trust Him, to let His light shine and to take as many people as we can to Heaven with us…where the pain will stop…where we will be forever if we know Him and follow His ways.

COMMITMENT

There was a time when a person’s word meant everything.  It was trusted because it marked a person’s character.  If you could keep your word you were a good friend and a reliable employee.  Neighbors wanted to be with you and not with the person who snubbed them in the past.

There was a time when people craved commitment and having a purpose.  It was not long ago that while a great deal of people had begun not to care about those things anymore, a great presence of people still wanted to have meaning in their life.  In the past decade those numbers have dwindled at an alarming rate.

There was a time when people had values.  Some would argue that values have simply changed, but there is a harsh difference in a “changed value” and no value at all.

I have given the lives of my children to God.  I know He has a purpose for their lives.  I also am all too aware that my job is to raise them up in the way that they should go.  A job that I cannot do alone.  A job that is really God working through me and my husband.  I pray for their salvation constantly, and for them to not fall into the millions of options of temptation that are around every corner.

I am tired of people doing what they want just because they can.  I am tired of selfishness and looking out for number one.  I am sorry if life isn’t always perfect, but big news is that no one’s life is perfect.  Putting things and self first is not going to change that.  I am tired of the “cool” people (from age 5-95) being cool because of all the “stuff” they have or all the places they have gone or stunts they have pulled.

Why isn’t it “cool” to raise a family? To commit to serving others? To lead people to Christ and know that they will live for eternity in His presence?  Last I checked eternity is infinitely longer than are lives on earth…for real.

Moms and Dads may live the most exciting lives in all actuality.  Most parents have children that turn their hair gray from time to time…or 10 times a day.  We are always riding on the brink of disaster.  😉

I am not knocking fancy houses and cars, being promoted at your company or traveling the world.  All those are wonderful things.  I am challenging everyone everywhere to put people first.  Keep your word, keep your promises, stay with your families even if it means sacrificing, don’t let a little pain make you run from the things you once loved.

Most importantly, love God, follow Jesus, trust in the Holy Spirit to guide you.  Stand firm in your faith.  If you don’t know Jesus, find out about Him and ask Him to show you the way.  HAVE PURPOSE IN YOUR LIFE, don’t just follow the next “cool” guy or chase after the next best thing.  Make a life you can be proud to say you lived and proud for others’ to see.  Make a life that the next generation will want to live and pray for a revival in our nation.

Egg Explanation

I was going to write a long post about abortion and why killing babies is wrong.  That last part of the sentence really shouldn’t need explained; it is something a 2 year old would know is wrong…but…I digress.  The fact is deep down, you all know that abortion is wrong even if you defend it.  Those that defend it merely attempt to justify it.

Just let this sink in…really sink in…according to the laws of this country:

It is a felony (fines and jail time potentials come with this) to tamper with the eggs of a sea turtle.

It is okay to throw away, destroy, etc fertilized eggs of a human and even to go as far as killing the unborn child.

I need an egg explanation as to why turtles (which I dearly love and would never harm) are more valuable to our culture than children (whom I dearly love, would never harm and would do anything to protect).  Help me out here…any logical person knows this makes entirely no sense.   We need to pray every chance we get for our world to value life again.

Son of God

I went to see the Son of God movie yesterday.   It was a decent film.  Movies like this one and the Passion of the Christ have to take some liberties and I sometimes struggle with them.  The liberties in this movie made it seem more relational then others, which is probably how it was…not just the Word, but the downtimes, too.  I could nitpick both movies…but the fact is that I am glad that they are in the movie theaters for the public to see.  I am so excited that we live in a country where we are allowed to have Jesus be the star in a film.  I love that both movies get The Message out there and I pray for the souls that see the movie that they may take a step closer to Him.

The previews we saw included Heaven is for Real and Noah.  Heaven is for Real looks like it is matches the book pretty well.  Noah has some big names in it and it will be interesting to see.

As excited as I am that these movies are in the theaters, I get nervous that since they are in the movie theaters, people will think of them as fiction or fantasy.  So, I pray.  It has to be better that they are in the theater than if they were not.  So, I pray.  I pray that a piece of the message, the Word, something will bring salvation to those who are not yet saved.

UPDATED:   Everyone is asking me about the movie and this is my response to one of my most recent inquirers:

I left the moving feeling a bit let down and I couldn’t really figure out why.  I knew there were lots of changes from the Bible, subtle as they might have been.  Changes that people who don’t know the Bible wouldn’t know.  The more I thought about it and the more questions I was asked about it the more I realized I was more diappointed than I first thought.

I was on guard right from the start when they showed the wise men visiting Jesus right after His birth.  And then they changed the last supper with the bread and Jesus forcing it into Judas’ mouth…and didn’t emphasize why He was dying…which should have been the whole point of the movie.  Plus they put in scriptures that were accurate but in the wrong places.  I could continue.  I know it is a movie, but it is a movie about Jesus and if it is going to be seen as fiction than it probably shouldn’t be in the theaters.  I would probably take it better if the new Noah movie has inaccuracies b/c that story isn’t likely to affect someone’s salvation.  But to change Jesus’ life…
I know a movie cannot be responsible for bringing someone to Christ, but I don’t understand the point in changing it.  I know there are different interpretations, but things were actually changed, and so yes, it would be considered false teaching.  I think of them in the same way as the big tv Christian personalities (televangelists) who say everything right…almost…but why twist it at all?  Will they be the ones outside the gates telling Jesus they did all these things for Him and He saying He doesn’t know them.  I pray that the movie has positive impacts and not negative.  And I know I am not better than anyone, I just try to discern what is acceptable and not.  I have a lot of my own garbage I pray about too.  So I am not claiming I know all or anything like that.

Sooo…I probably could continue, but that is a good summary of my thoughts.  And they are just my thoughts from my understanding of the Bible.
