30 days

Christmas break officially ended today!  School began, work began, routines began.  While it is fun to be on break, there is something to be said about routines too.  It makes the down time more appreciated in the least.  My workouts were few and far between during break, so I started 2 30 day challenges yesterday.  1 is a 30 day ab flattener found on the Cassey Ho website.  The other is a 30 day arm challenge found on shrinkingjeans.net  Completing both takes under 5 minutes, but it is a quick strengthening tool to add to my “what should be normal” workout routine.  😉  Check them out and let me know if you are doing them along with me.  🙂

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” 3 John 1:2 (NIV)

10.28.14

Yes I am still here!  Life just recently exploded (nothing serious, just time crunches all around)  🙂

First of all, I want to start with this verse that came in my email a few days ago.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

Talk about a convicting verse!  All of our thoughts and attitudes are judged by our SINLESS, PERFECT, Master and Creator.  If only we could remember that every day.  Remember that not only do we not have any right to judge another no matter how “bad” that person may seem, but how do we stand before our perfect maker knowing that He knows our innermost thoughts, feelings and secrets.  We are not called to judge, but we can hold each other accountable…there is a fine line there we must be careful not to cross.

Something else I have been convicted by for quite some time is prayer for children.  I have been a pro-life advocate for as long as I remember, but it goes beyond that.  We need to do everything we can for children all over the world.  Some of us can help them in a tangible way, some in a monetary way, some with prayer.  I feel that kids need to be the forefront of prayer…our own childrens’ eternity, babies not to be aborted, girls who are sold, children who are bullied, children who are abused, bullied, taken advantage of, and even killed.  Children need to know real love, real hope, real faith.  They need to know their loving Father through Him and through us, through prayers and through hugs, through warmth and through clothing, through kindness and through honesty, and through safety.  Let’s keep them in solid and consistent prayer.

Now, I also was supposed to put health and fitness on here too, so moving onto that, which is significantly less important than what I have typed above…BUT…we do need to take care of our temples, too…so here we go…

I have been doing pretty well with calories and workouts…I now have a Christmas party to add to the motivation list.  😉  Even if your calories don’t change, you will feel so much healthier if you switch soda for water and add some green veggies.  Health is the key, remember.  Health and toning is the goal!  If you have ever heard the saying “Abs are Made in the Kitchen” that is correct.  Granted you have a bit more leeway if you are working out hardcore, but part of being toned is what you put in your stomach.  Some foods will help shed fat, while others will put a nice fat layer over those muscles you worked so hard to achieve.  Switching up workouts also keeps your muscles on their toes.  I have been adding some cardio boxing into the mix, which has been great!  Constant moving, squats, arm and back muscles active, and very fun!

OK, off to tackle the day!  Enjoy yours!

FitBit!

I have recently been introduced to the FitBit.  It was a gift and it is super fun!

You all know I am a fitness/health guru.  I am constantly trying to find the best workouts, chiseling muscle routines, healthy eating plans, and diets.  Through all of this I have become a healthier person.  I no longer think that I will be prettier if I am a size negative zero.  I really only thought like that for a year a few years ago.  I now know that I have a 10-15 pound range and both ends are very healthy.  One end may be more muscle and one more thin, but both are ok.   I know what I need to do to be my healthiest, I know when I don’t do that, accept it and start new the next day.  I have plans on using my interest in these areas to become a personal trainer.

Enough of that ramble.

Even though I have come to this realization for me, I also know I need accountability so I don’t go crazy with laziness or gluttony.  😉  The FitBit is great for that.  It keeps track of everything!  I can track my calories burned and eaten, how much sleep I get and its quality, my activities and how many steps I take in a day.  I am currently around 13,000 steps a day.  🙂  You can also link up with friends and have a healthy health competition.

I highly recommend this for EVERYONE.  Such a great gift and tool and toy.  🙂

Check out their website.

Sculpted Arms and Healthy Cereal

I am always looking for new workouts, healthy eating tips and things of the like.  I also know my body pretty well, so know my trouble areas (even if others try to make me feel good but saying there are none).  😉

My thighs and my triceps are my toughest areas to tone.  There are different times when they are more in shape than others, but I have a hard time getting that “cut” look if you will.  I finally found a pretty easy arm workout that may actually work.  I am beginning to see small signs that it may actually give me the look I want.  Sooo…I thought I would share.  Enjoy!

I am also very interested in eating healthy, but often cave to the sugar monster.  Sadly once I cave it is difficult to recover.  Sugar is addictive to me…seriously.  blah!  I am a huge fan of cereal, though, but it needs to be treated as a dessert in my opinion.  There is a ton of sugar packed in those boxes.  I am also skeptical of protein cereals, because even those that claim to have a high protein content seem to have double the carbs.  I used to shy away from Kashi thinking it was just the new fad brand, but I am a new fan of their 7 Whole Grains Puffed Rice Cereal…low cal, no sugar, no flour.  Add a banana and some 30 calorie almond milk and you have a filling meal  that is pretty healthy.  🙂  And the 30 calorie almond milk is a winner to me…add cinnamon or vanilla and you have your own non-additive, non-sugar, tasty cereal maker.  I am also a fan of Special K Protein, because while the carbs are still higher than the grams of protein, they are the lowest that I have found.

That’s all for my random Thursday health and workout update.

🙂

Sugar and Slides

Sundays are our family days.  No matter how busy we are during the week, we set aside Sundays to do things fun as a family that do not require work or school as part of the day.  🙂  Today we went to a park fairly near our house.  It was our first visit there and it was pretty awesome.  They built a slide into a hillside, resembling a small water slide, but without the water.  You are supposed to bring a piece of cardboard and you sit on it to go down the slide.  There is also a playground there.  The kids had a blast!  And I loved that something so simple was entertaining to them.  Free outdoor fun is always a good thing!  The only snag, which irked Mommy and Daddy more than the kids, was when a grandpa didn’t want to share the box that we brought.  Long silly story that I do not want to go into, but it was interesting that all the kids could share with each other and the grandpa was unaware of how that process worked.  Alas, another life lesson for the kids.  That was about 30 seconds of the whole time we were there, so it was a successful, happy and fun day!

Something interesting that I have been doing….I did a 10 day no sugar experiment.  I could eat natural sugar…meaning fruit, but nothing processed.  I gave myself a 10 day limit so I could see the end of the tunnel and therefore have more success.  Today is day 11, so I am pigging out a bit, but I am going back into another 10 day no sugar beginning tomorrow.  Being without sugar made my body much healthier. I could feel it.   I have had quite of bit of sugar today (in different forms)  and my body noticed right away.  But I do not want my body to forget how to process any of those foods quite yet.  Interestingly, I had a diet soda and it tasted horrible!  Which actually made me happy…because I know diet ingredients are really awful for your body.  And if I lose my temptation for them, all the better.  Baked goods however did not taste terrible, however if I get in a habit of only eating them every so often, I am not too concerned.  I did lose a little bit of weight…I will gain a fraction of that back today.  For me, the best part of no sugar is how quickly my belly slimmed.  My belly is not my biggest problem area, but wow! any slight improvement is ok with me.  I am sure after today there will be a little bulge, but it will also go away.  🙂

And that is the light weekend update!

Insane

I began the Insanity workout program!  I have not done the diet plan with it yet…still contemplating.  It isn’t much different than what I try to do…try being the operative word…except for the shakes.  I enjoy it so far.  Some of it is a love/hate relationship.  I do not think I will go through the whole thing again, but may purchase a few of the dvds to have onhand as alternate workouts.  (I am currently borrowing them from a friend).

My synopsis on the program…

* it makes me sweat a lot

* some of them keep me short of breath

* I hate switch kicks!

* it is a good cardio workout

* I am not seeing the results I thought I would by now

* it is not as insane as I feared…which is good!

* it is good cardio, but I think I need to add to my day’s routine to get the results I am looking for

Will keep you posted if more insane revelations arise.  🙂

Clean Eating Day 2 Flop

I was happily surprised when this plan I am following allowed store bought items like yogurt, cottage cheese and regular cheese.  However, my body is not responding well.  I know I react to the dyes in foods, but apparently there is something else.  I am swelling up and itchy again.  Part of me wonders if it is dairy, as I avoided it for awhile, but I have never had dairy issues in the past.  So, again, back to the drawing board.  I am going back to all natural and just wrote up my own plan.  Hoping I can stick to it.  The only unnatural food I am allowing is my whey protein.  Will keep you posted!  🙂

clean eating

I began following the Quick and Clean Diet today!  So far so good.  I LOVE the protein smoothie…1 cup of strawberries, 1 scoop vanilla whey and 6 oz egg whites.  It is actually filling, sweet and creamy…pretty good.  I have dinner left…shrimp salad.  I also did my cardio and static exercises for the day.  Hoping for the best!  🙂

weekly update

My weight is back up…ugh!  The roller coaster of this is craziness!  I know part of it is eating…we had chocolate in the house this week…bad news.  But I also think part of it is muscle, because my body fat percentage is still low…and I can see definition of muscle.

EITHER WAY, my goal jeans are crazy crazy tight right now, and whether I need to lose the fat or the muscle (likely a combo)…it needs to be done.

My plan of action is to do 30-45 minutes of cardio 6 days a week and 30-45 minutes of weights or other exercise 6 days a week.

I am also going to follow the Quick and Clean Diet book by Dari Alexander for the next 2 weeks.  I think it will help me stay on track with clean eating.  When I do well with clean eating, my body notices.

And as always, I know that keeping my inside clean, as in spiritually, kindness, bettering myself as a person, is far more important than the vanity of the outside, so I have been trying to be better about longer devotional times, more genuine prayers and have been reading a bunch of awesome books that I will post about when I am finished.  I have about 10 going right now, a page at a time, so it will be awhile before they make it to the book review page, but we will get there.

Anyone who wants to can join me…we can keep each other accountable.

weekly update

Progress…slow but steady!  🙂  I attribute most of it to the whole and non-processed foods!

My bmi is sitting right at 20.5  … would love for it to be under 20 still…hopefully progress continues.

I braved the body fat measurements and ranged from 15% to 19% pending on the calculator…all in athletic range…I was pretty happy with that…still have some percentages to go, but all in all, pretty ok.

I just have to remember this as motivation to keep getting healthier!  🙂
