weekly update

Eating cleaner, avoiding dyes and eating a bit less has slowly gotten me on the right track.  We emptied our pantry and fridge before vacation so it was a good opportunity to fill everything up with healthy foods.  My husband has his own junk food stash though.  🙂

My BMI is under 21 now which is good, on the way to under 20, which will be better.  I am likely going to start body fat measurements again soon now that my allergic reaction water weight has gone down some.

A couple things that tripped me up with yellow dye were vanilla ice cream and natural trail mix with dried fruit.  But, since I have avoided dyes so well everywhere else it was easy to know what caused it and when ingredients were check it was confirmed.

Be back next week!

weekly update

The human body amazes me.  So much progress made last week (likely all water weight) and seemingly all because I had no allergic reactions.  I had reactions more days than not this week and almost all of the weight is back on.  People can say what they want about water weight, but when it doesn’t belong there, you want it gone.  It is real weight, it does effect the tightness of clothes and make a stomach unrecognizable.

The dr. is pretty sure that it is yellow dye and carmel coloring and I am pretty sure I agree.  The only unexplained phenomenon right now is apples.  Because I did not test positive to them with the scratch test.  However, so many storebought items that make me sick contain yellow dye.  I have to be better about reading labels.  I did not even expect it to be in italian dressing or vanilla frosting.  Just another reason to make my own food at home.  😉

So I am discouraged again this week after such a success last week.  I still have 10-14 pounds to go to reach my goal.  My workouts are great…have a few intense ones that I love… and if I tape my foot most of the day I can do a lot with it.  There are swelling days and normal days, but in general all is well.  I guess I can say the same about food at this point.  Swelling days and non-swelling days.

I think after the extreme weight losses and gains and swellings my body has been through I can rationalize the point I am at now.  But, no more excuses.  I have a game plan that is healthy, slow and steady, and yellow dye free.  I am hoping the results come now and stay.

Be back next week!

Champagne and Feet

Last night my awesome cousin and her husband took us to an awesome champagne bar!  Very cool.  I am not a big drinker, but I do like champagne, so ordered a champagne cocktail with strawberry something in it.  SO GOOD!  Then also ordered a scrumptious s’mores crepe…may be the best thing I ever ate.  I seriously wanted to move the place into my basement.

Because of that and the birthday party we had prior to, my foot was not wrapped at all yesterday and I am feeling it today.  I feel so old between the tendinitis and the food allergies or whatever is making my body react, but the fact that neither is serious is awesome…can’t keep me down.  😉  No complaining…really…when I was on the elliptical the other morning after the sermon I was listening to they showed a clip of a girl that was sold into human trafficking.  The degrees of suffering in this world are so great…I was reminded again that I have no right to be upset about little things in life…at least not dramatically upset…a little frustration may come out at times.  No use creating drama when there is enough real drama in the world already.

And my tangent post is done, but if you have a champagne bar anywhere in your vicinity, I would highly recommend!

weekly update (late) and stuff

I feel slightly guilty or vain ( not sure of the wording) dedicating so much thought to the weekly updates.  Please know I KNOW there are far more important things in the world…pretty much anything.  BUT…being healthy is a good thing and so I will continue to post the updates.

I am still avoiding the scale because my clothes are still tight.  blah!

However, I have gone to 1 dr, gotten my first round of bloodwork underway and have appts for the next dr and bloodwork lined up, so hopefully answers will come soon.  I also know for 100% certainty some food which cause me to swell up, have allergic reactions or both.

Now that those things are under way a bit, the testing and feeling sick stage is over, though I am heavier, I have a better plan.  And part of that plan is to get back on track with normal and healthy eating, consistent eating, consistent workouts.

As of tomorrow I am putting myself on Cassey Ho’s 90 day meal plan.  I will only stay on it as long as I need to get to my goal.  I am also going to do 3 of her mini workouts a day along with elliptical and weight training.  This is not as time consuming as one may think.  Just requires early rising.  Most importantly I am making my goal of devotion/Bible/quiet time to happen before I exercise…start the day right.

I have made a couple modifications to her meals to avoid foods I know I react to.  I will be staying in the 1200-1300 calorie range.  I will be eating primarily veggies and protein with some fruits mixed in.  One day a week I will allow myself a cheat item (not an entire meal).  I really want to get my body back AND get my healthy eating habits back.

Otherwise things here are going well.  We had a few years of people around us falling apart and the past few weeks we have gotten some great news and prayer answers!  🙂

We are beginning to read the Narnia Chronicles to our kids…a little every night starting with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, of course.  We are all enjoying it.

No complaints, but summer is soon, so gotta get in shape!  🙂

weekly update

Still avoiding the scales…although my clothes still fit and my measurements are pretty much the same, I know I have gained weight.  I can see it when I look in the mirror and I know it is there.

This week was spent experimenting with foods which assisted me in my weight gain.  I have narrowed it down to some potentials and now will stop experimenting.  I am an action person…can’t wait 30 days to be gluten free when I can experiment.  😉

So now that I feel gross and heavy AND have stopped experimenting I am doing a detox for a few days.  Normally I am not into these, BUT I do have some bloat, this detox provides PLENTY of calories, and it is all healthy food.  It actually may not cause any weight loss, but if it helps with the bloat and rids me of some yuckiness that my experiments have put in my body, then all the better.

After these 3 days of detox I am onto natural foods for awhile.  And allergy testing.

One of the meals for today’s part of the detox was a green smoothie.  I have to say if you have to chew a smoothie…a green one at that…it doesn’t need to be said that it is gross.  I couldn’t take it.  I replaced it with half of the ingredients of my breakfast smoothie and half lunch and it was much more tolerable.  Tomorrow, my green smoothie will have adjustments made to fit the requirements.

Be back with a better report next week.  🙂

mid week update

I am not even talking about the scale.  My measurements other than my belly are pretty much the same, so that is a relief.  I did some food experimenting (too early I know, by far, but I just want to figure it out!) and caused my self to blow up again.

But, more important than all of that is that we have noticed my youngest seems to react when I do.  Did some research and the poor thing may have had food allergies for awhile.  I am more concerned in figuring his out since he is already lactose intolerant.  As a family we are going to approach a very simplistic living plan for awhile (once we eat through the food we already have)…meaning, other than almond milk and almond butter we are going to avoid most foods that come in containers.  We are going to be primarily fruits, veggies and meats for a bit to see if it makes a difference in our general health.

3 things I hope happen from this experiment:

1. We find out what food is triggering reactions

2. We are able to have “unhealthy/processed/manmade” foods in moderation

3. We adapt a whole new healthy lifestyle that allows us to make smart food choices without being overboard crazy about it

So I am pretty sure that gluten presents a problem to my body.  But I am still in the stage of determining to what extent.  I did get a celiac test a year or 2 ago and was cleared.  So…for all of you who suffer from gluten issues, please lend your advice.  The internet offers a lot of information and a lot of contradictory information.  I will be making an appointment with my dr, but in the meantime…help…please.  🙂

* Differences in wheat allergies, gluten intolerance, gluten sensitivity, etc?

* lunchmeat ok or no?

* greek yogurt ok or no?

* should I assume everything is not safe if it doesn’t specify that it is gluten free?

* do itchy ears, throat, eyes etc line up with internal belly issues?…I seem to have both…

* is it possibly I have nothing wrong with me per se…it is just that gluten is not healthy for anyone and I am noticing it more since I have avoided it for some time?

* is there a non-fancy, very basic, mostly whole food diet plan I can follow day to day for awhile…?

Any advice is appreciated,
