Cherries, Goals, Joseph and Josh McDowell

My daughter recently had a birthday, and I was lacking in taking pictures of the food, so I will just tell you about it.

Her theme was cherries, so I decided to include cherries in every part of the dinner.  We had cherry coke and cherry koolaid to drink, cherry glazed pork roast and cherry coke bbq ribs for our main course, cherry applesauce and a tossed salad with dried cherries for sides, cherry muffins and cherry jello topped of the dinner off.  Dessert included  cherry pie cookies and a chocolate cake shaped as decorated as a cherry.  Cherry heads, cherry tootsie pops and cherry twizzlers garnished the table as well.

I had a lot of fun making these dishes, most of the recipes were new.  And, she was excited that cherries touched everything!  I think her love for cherries is waning slightly…probably just because we were inundated with them for awhile.  😉

Anyone interested in the above recipes, shoot me a message!  🙂

In other news…I know I have not done well with blogging every day as was my goal.  Gallbladders and floods got in the way.  BUT, I have to say that God is drawing me closer.  Definitely giving me new questions to tackle and research, which means I am digging into His word more, which is always a good thing!  I am by no means digging in as much as I could/should, but I am getting there…only because of Him.  In my gallbladder craziness, both food and exercise went by the wayside, but it actually helped me get back to normal living.  I found that overtraining leads to overeating for me, because the calories you burn can’t compete with the incredible hunger.  So, I am mixing it up, doing different cardio and strength routines, not getting stuck in a rut and not getting crazy hungry.  ‘At first there was no difference, but I am happy to say that I am finally seeing some more definition in my body AND shed a couple pounds (just a couple, but I am ok with that for now).  😉

I recently finished UnDaunted.  It is a nonfiction book about Josh McDowell.  Josh McDowell is the author of More Than a Carpenter.  Josh learned to forgive the unforgivable, to trust the untrustable and to hope in something he didn’t quite believe all because of God.  The writing may not be the greatest, but the story is amazing!

My husband and I began watching Seasons of Gray~A Modern Day Joseph Story.  WOW!  So good!  We have to finish it tonight but I can already recommend it.

That is my eclectic post for the day!

🙂

10.28.14

Yes I am still here!  Life just recently exploded (nothing serious, just time crunches all around)  🙂

First of all, I want to start with this verse that came in my email a few days ago.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

Talk about a convicting verse!  All of our thoughts and attitudes are judged by our SINLESS, PERFECT, Master and Creator.  If only we could remember that every day.  Remember that not only do we not have any right to judge another no matter how “bad” that person may seem, but how do we stand before our perfect maker knowing that He knows our innermost thoughts, feelings and secrets.  We are not called to judge, but we can hold each other accountable…there is a fine line there we must be careful not to cross.

Something else I have been convicted by for quite some time is prayer for children.  I have been a pro-life advocate for as long as I remember, but it goes beyond that.  We need to do everything we can for children all over the world.  Some of us can help them in a tangible way, some in a monetary way, some with prayer.  I feel that kids need to be the forefront of prayer…our own childrens’ eternity, babies not to be aborted, girls who are sold, children who are bullied, children who are abused, bullied, taken advantage of, and even killed.  Children need to know real love, real hope, real faith.  They need to know their loving Father through Him and through us, through prayers and through hugs, through warmth and through clothing, through kindness and through honesty, and through safety.  Let’s keep them in solid and consistent prayer.

Now, I also was supposed to put health and fitness on here too, so moving onto that, which is significantly less important than what I have typed above…BUT…we do need to take care of our temples, too…so here we go…

I have been doing pretty well with calories and workouts…I now have a Christmas party to add to the motivation list.  😉  Even if your calories don’t change, you will feel so much healthier if you switch soda for water and add some green veggies.  Health is the key, remember.  Health and toning is the goal!  If you have ever heard the saying “Abs are Made in the Kitchen” that is correct.  Granted you have a bit more leeway if you are working out hardcore, but part of being toned is what you put in your stomach.  Some foods will help shed fat, while others will put a nice fat layer over those muscles you worked so hard to achieve.  Switching up workouts also keeps your muscles on their toes.  I have been adding some cardio boxing into the mix, which has been great!  Constant moving, squats, arm and back muscles active, and very fun!

OK, off to tackle the day!  Enjoy yours!

Insane

I began the Insanity workout program!  I have not done the diet plan with it yet…still contemplating.  It isn’t much different than what I try to do…try being the operative word…except for the shakes.  I enjoy it so far.  Some of it is a love/hate relationship.  I do not think I will go through the whole thing again, but may purchase a few of the dvds to have onhand as alternate workouts.  (I am currently borrowing them from a friend).

My synopsis on the program…

* it makes me sweat a lot

* some of them keep me short of breath

* I hate switch kicks!

* it is a good cardio workout

* I am not seeing the results I thought I would by now

* it is not as insane as I feared…which is good!

* it is good cardio, but I think I need to add to my day’s routine to get the results I am looking for

Will keep you posted if more insane revelations arise.  🙂

weekly update

My weight is back up…ugh!  The roller coaster of this is craziness!  I know part of it is eating…we had chocolate in the house this week…bad news.  But I also think part of it is muscle, because my body fat percentage is still low…and I can see definition of muscle.

EITHER WAY, my goal jeans are crazy crazy tight right now, and whether I need to lose the fat or the muscle (likely a combo)…it needs to be done.

My plan of action is to do 30-45 minutes of cardio 6 days a week and 30-45 minutes of weights or other exercise 6 days a week.

I am also going to follow the Quick and Clean Diet book by Dari Alexander for the next 2 weeks.  I think it will help me stay on track with clean eating.  When I do well with clean eating, my body notices.

And as always, I know that keeping my inside clean, as in spiritually, kindness, bettering myself as a person, is far more important than the vanity of the outside, so I have been trying to be better about longer devotional times, more genuine prayers and have been reading a bunch of awesome books that I will post about when I am finished.  I have about 10 going right now, a page at a time, so it will be awhile before they make it to the book review page, but we will get there.

Anyone who wants to can join me…we can keep each other accountable.

working out

What do you like to do to keep in shape?

I have had a few conversations lately and am curious to know your favorite routines, HIITS, etc.

I like to switch it up.  I get bored with things like running (yes I did train for a half) and yoga, not because they are easy, because they certainly are not, but because my mind focuses on what I am doing and then I realize I am not enjoying it.

I like weight training  A LOT!  I tolerate running and elliptical because it is great cardio, but I entertain myself with music or tv of some sort.  I really enjoy HIIT routines, but with my aging body those routines often cause aching joints.  Jillian and Cassey Ho are my favorite videos…Jillian for longer and Cassey for shorter targeted areas.  I have also recently gotten into some dancing workout videos, which I am having a lot of fun with!

What do you like?  Let me know below.

weekly update

I am finally feeling better…yay!  I was able to get back into a more normal lifting and cardio routine this week.  I have survived 2 Christmas parties since last weekly update and I am still at my 20.4 BMI.  While my goal is taking longer than I initially intended…I am excited that I am still remaining the same or slowly losing, especially in light of all the food around these days.  😉  We will have Christmas and then Christmas #2 and hopefully I won’t have as much food temptation after that.  Be back next week.

Change and Consistency

I have been thinking and so haven’t been doing my daily food and exercise report.

All of you following my healthy living/weight loss plan know I have yet to reach any of my goals…goals that were easy for me not too long ago.  Recently though, I (try to eat less) deprive myself of food and then eat too much.  I need to change that and be consistent.  I also am getting bored posting my daily routines and think it probably is boring to the readers.  We will just assume that most days I will do a cardio workout and a lifting workout, that I will do my best to stay at 1500 calories or less, but may go over with healthy foods, that I will do my best to be unnatural-sugar free.

From this point on I will report in just once a week with BMI and body fat percentage stats.  Weigh in days will be Saturdays…since my weight has been going in the opposite direction, my first goal is to get back to my starting point and go from there.  So don’t hold any high expectations for me for my first report.  Hopefully after that I can get my act together a bit more.  AND, I promise to be honest if I slip…I have been honest so far, so no reason to think otherwise.

I also have been making some personal observations lately and finally have accepted them (for the most part).  I have no desire to be underweight again.  For awhile I thought I had to be the thinnest person or as thin as actresses.  Guess what?  Actresses are revered because they are gorgeous and even if I weighed as little as they do (not saying they are all underweight, because many are not), I am still not a tv star…and I am ok with that.  🙂  I think I am not losing weight as quickly this time because I am actually happy with most of my body most of the time…I know I have much room for improvement, but I also know I am much happier and much healthier where I am now compared to where I was a year ago.

Slow and steady wins the race and as I make my mistakes along the way, my ultimate goal is to be healthier and lose a little weight…I have my number that I would like to reach.

Anyway, changing a little on the weight report, but still hope to encourage others and use you all as accountability.  🙂

day 6

Am workout = thighs, glutes with bands

Meals included…(yes again a few graham crackers…ugh!), egg whites, protein shake, berries

Water intake: 30 ounces so far

Caloric intake: AND THEN I BLEW IT!  Again.  I am beginning to feel like I am 1 step forward 2 steps back.  erg!  Sorely in need of an accountability partner or a personal trainer.  😉  Or maybe I just need to stop baking for other people and sampling too much…hmmm…

PM workout = P90X cardio (to try to make up for a horrible evening of gorging)

****Still a possibility of trying out a thigh/buns workout from good old Jillian tonight before sleep…feeling that guilty about the food.

Day 2

So far so good…

This morning I began with a leg routine including hack squats, pop squats, dead lifts and lunges…no crazy weights used though.  On hand for tonight…I am going to attempt to do the Linda Crossfit routine (with lighter weights) and if I have energy left I have a Tough Mudder circuit with cardio, weights and other random activities.  I know I can get through some of both the Linda and the Tough Mudder circuit…hopefully I can get through most, or all, of both.

In terms of food…

I have one more meal to eat for the day and am contemplating some egg whites with a bit of cheese and maybe even a banana.  The rest of the day has been filled with lots of water, lots of fruit (I know some don’t recommend fruit when losing weight, but I “need” it), some green veggies, eggs, and a protein shake.  My total calories is just at 1500…maybe even a few under.  🙂

Not weighing myself for awhile…BUT I will say that a year ago if I was at this weight I would have been a lot more bummed out than I am now, so I am mentally making some progress too.  🙂

Will report in tomorrow.  🙂

UPDATE:

* Completed the Linda Crossfit…I surely did not have heavy enough weights, when I add weight I am not sure if I will be able to complete it as easily.

* Did half of the Tough Mudder workout.  It is 50 minutes, I did 25.  I am off to bed now though.

* I did eat bread with margarine (gasp)…I know it is bad…so my calories are closer to 1800 now.

* I did drink even more water…bringing me up to around 60 ounces for the day.

Here we go…

Alright readers…here we go.  I have mentioned more than once on my war between eating and being healthy.  I am not overweight, but have some areas that need attention.  Over the last year I have started being healthy and fallen off the wagon a myriad of times.  It could happen again, but I am hoping with posting my progress on here that it will keep me a bit more accountable.  No matter what my weight or size I need to be HEALTHY.

Sooooo…at the moment I am at the highest weight I have been (other than when I was pregnant)…nope, not saying what it is.  😉  I know some is muscle, but not as much as I would like.  I will say that my goal weight is 115.  This is huge for me as my goal weight once was 105 pounds and it was achieved, but not healthy.  115 would be both healthy and not crazy.

I am going to lose it slowly…trying to form good habits along the way…I once had them and lost them.  😦  I am determined to get them back.  Plus I know that with my lifting regimen, it will be slow losing weight as I build muscle which weighs more than fat anyway.

My plan is add yet another category to the sidebar and post my progress, struggles, exercise routines, etc.  If you want to join me in this quest, welcome!

I cannot believe I am doing this for anyone to see, but, if it helps keep me accountable, it is worth it.

So…today was my first day to try to be healthy.  I ate about 1500 calories.  I really should be under that for my size and weight, but it is much better than the amount I have been intaking.  After training, my body is having a hard time decreasing the caloric intake.  I have not yet done my workout for the day, but am about to do a weight program, some thigh work with a band and a bit of cardio after that.

In the future I will hopefully post after working out and so can give a more detailed synopsis of the day.

Food today included a protein shake, a lot of fruit, veggies, scallops, almond butter, a slice of cheese and egg whites.

Will be back tomorrow…hopefully tomorrow will be successful, as well.
