I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.

Isaiah 43:11-12

I have been reading “Prodigal God” and it is very good at drilling home that we all need a Savior.  The man on death row is no more a sinner than the man who has hate in his heart.  The woman who “works at night” is no more a sinner than the woman who lied.  Many of us know this, but how often do we truly believe it?  Do you know that you are as much a sinner as the people you judge?  Do you know, really know, that nothing you do will get you into Heaven?  Do you know that the person on this earth that you despise is a child of God?  We need to put our judgments away, we need to repent of our own sins, we need to pray for EVERY soul on this earth to change for Him.  And more than anything else, we need to trust Him, our Savior, our Lord, the Creator.  Our lives will be filled with joys and trials, but our life is the tiniest blip compared to eternity.  And He is waiting for us, all we have to do is knock.

The Book Thief and Divergent

I would recommend anyone seeing the movie The Book Thief.  However, I would recommend the book more, which I am sure I did when I wrote about this amazing piece of literature.  The movie, while very good, may be difficult to follow if you hadn’t read the book.  The characters did a great job, though, and I feel the story still came to life.  The little boy in the movie completely reminded my husband and me of our little toe-head…not just in his appearance, but in his behaviors.  It was sweet to be reminded of him, except for his fate, of course.  Bottom line, go see the movie it is good, but read the book, it is better!

I have been waiting for over a year to see my movie Divergent!  Divergent and its sequel are a couple of my favorite fiction books and the movie did not disappoint!  I would recommend the book and the movie to anyone!  SO GOOD!  I would easily pay to see it again.  😉  Yes I am the same person who criticized the Son of God movie, and no, this movie does not give a message of salvation, BUT it does not claim to either.  😉  Good movie, good book, highly recommended!

Children’s Books

I have to tell you that I love Beverly Lewis!  It has been awhile since I read a chapter book from a children’s series, so it seemed a bit simple at first, but then I had to remember it needs to be simple.  😉  She has little people as her audience.  We began reading The Cul-de-sac kid series as a family, but my daughter also reads them on her own.   I recommend them to anyone with lower elementary aged children.  It is especially great for our family since we live on a cul-de-sac street, have girls and boys, and have adopted!  I love how closely the family in the book relates to our family.  Most importantly, the children in the story PRAY!  I am so excited that an author wrote a children’s book in which the children pray.  We have only read the first book, but will definitely continue the series.  Love The Cul-de-sac Kids!  🙂

When our cat died I looked for some books for the kids to read and help them.   The Bible is not clear on what happens to animals when they die.  There is no way for us to know if they will be in Heaven or not.  Sooooo….a lot of assumptions are made in children’s books to make the child feel better.  It is a great thing to make a child feel better, but in our family we want to make them feel better with truth and not assumptions.  I previewed the books and ended up not giving any to the children to read, solely because of mixed messages.  The worst one, however, was the one that was trying to be most politically correct.  I will not mention the title, but according to the reviews it is a pretty popular choice.  The entire book was great…up until the point when the author had the daddy character tell his child that we are not sure if there is a heaven or not.  That closed the book for me.  I understand for sales an author may not want to step on toes and offend people.  However, I give great praise and credit to the authors who aren’t afraid to stand up for their faith even in children’s books.  Thank you Beverly Lewis!
