How Did We Get Here?

It is a simple question.  The answer is really just as simple…we, as a country, have turned away from God.  In this ever-changing world, change is the obsession…what is faster, flashier, eye catching…not boring.  A year ago I would have said, “but truth is truth…apples are apples, oranges are oranges, what goes up must come down”…but in a world where we let first graders decide that they are not the gender they were born as, how can I convince anyone that an apple is still an apple and that truth is still truth?

The truth is our country was built on biblical foundations.

The truth is if I jump off a building, without a go-go gadget copter, I will fall.

The truth is an apple is an apple and an orange is an orange.

The truth is if you live in this country and you are an American,  you should respect the country and the people who defend it by standing up for the National Anthem…and knowing the words doesn’t hurt.

The truth is drugs will kill you eventually if you keep using them, and they will surely hurt those who love you until, and probably after, you stop using them.

The truth is you are the gender you are born as, yes changes can be made after, but not before, and those changes tell God that He made a mistake (a slippery slope).

The truth is abortion is taking the life of a human being.

The truth is we are all sinners, and should love each other regardless of what we think of their personal choices.

Why am I saying all this?  I am saying all of this in a last desperate attempt to keep America from voting for someone who is going to take our country far away from it started…and not for the better.

The truth is Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein are all sinners, as well…we can’t vote for any of them as individuals.  We need to look past those individuals to their teams (who are also imperfect).  Stein and her team stand for practically everything the Bible stands against.  Johnson has a nice appeal, but he supports pro-choice, and he supports staying out of people’s lives when it comes to drugs.  Its a nice view…the government shouldn’t be too involved in our personal choices…but their has to be a line somewhere, or before long it will be our personal choice whether or not we rob banks or murder.  Being a teacher and knowing the heartache of the kids who have lost a parent to drugs, seeing babies in the hospital fight for their lives because they are addicted to drugs at birth, proves that those “personal choices” aren’t just personal.  Hillary Clinton would be in jail today if she was a normal person like the rest of us, but seems to be the front runner to lead the country…what does that say about us?  Donald Trump is arrogant and obnoxious.  He has made some horrible choices in his life.  I would not recommend you vote for him if it were solely him you were voting for.  BUT…he has surrounded himself with a team of people who have morals and values…and who will try to get this country a little bit closer to where it was when it began.

I want my kids to grow up in a world that is closer to the way the country was when I was growing up…or even before then!  I do not want my kids to be part of the downward spiral the country has been on…and the last decade it has been on fast forward.

The truth is, in this country where I have freedom of speech, this blog could be considered hate…which is so far from what it is.  It is speaking truth in love.  It is a mom’s desperate plea to make the world a little more safe, a little more truthful, a little better for my children and all children growing up in this world.  It is loving people no matter what, in hopes that they will return the favor to me, knowing that it is my job as a Christian to show Christ’s love.  Knowing that He died for me and everyone knowing how crazy this world would get.  Knowing that He died for us…us…us who think we can plan and make things better than He.

And a truthful question is…if Jesus came back today, would we be embarrassed?

Paul Harvey

Many of you may have heard this many times before.  I was only introduced to it about a month ago.  I find it both profound and disturbing.  Disturbing only because of the truth of it, disturbing because I have children growing up in this world…but God is bigger than it all.  He is holding the whole world and every moment of the world that has taken place, is taking place and is yet to take place.  And He is not surprised by anything…and He is already the crowned victor!  Praying that the children of the world choose to follow Him and not get entrapped in the ploys of the devil.

This is a transcript of a radio show; Paul Harvey read a piece he scripted called “If I were the devil”

PAUL HARVEY’S ‘IF I WERE THE DEVIL’ TRANSCRIPT 1965
If I were the devil … If I were the Prince of Darkness, I’d want to engulf the whole world in darkness. And I’d have a third of it’s real estate, and four-fifths of its population, but I wouldn’t be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree — Thee. So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States. I’d subvert the churches first — I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: ‘Do as you please.’

“To the young, I would whisper that ‘The Bible is a myth.’ I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what’s bad is good, and what’s good is ‘square.’ And the old, I would teach to pray, after me, ‘Our Father, which art in Washington…’

“And then I’d get organized. I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting, so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten TV with dirtier movies and vice versa. I’d pedal narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.

“If I were the devil I’d soon have families that war with themselves, churches at war with themselves, and nations at war with themselves; until each in its turn was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames. If I were the devil I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, but neglect to discipline emotions — just let those run wild, until before you knew it, you’d have to have drug sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.

“Within a decade I’d have prisons overflowing, I’d have judges promoting pornography — soon I could evict God from the courthouse, then from the schoolhouse, and then from the houses of Congress. And in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion, and deify science. I would lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls, and church money. If I were the devil I’d make the symbols of Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

“If I were the devil I’d take from those, and who have, and give to those wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. And what do you bet? I could get whole states to promote gambling as thee way to get rich? I would caution against extremes and hard work, in Patriotism, in moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging is more fun, that what you see on the TV is the way to be. And thus I could undress you in public, and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure. In other words, if I were the devil I’d just keep right on doing on what he’s doing. Paul Harvey, good day.”

VOTING

I am sure many, if not most, of you who read this will not be voting the same way I am.  Surprisingly to you, I’m okay with that.  🙂

I do have two small little requests for you:

  1. VOTE: So many people complain about who gets into office and they don’t get out and vote.  Please vote.
  2. PRAY: and listen to the response.  If everyone actually took a little time to pray (myself included) before voting, I have a feeling no matter what the outcome, we’d all feel a lot better about it.

There are so many issues to consider when voting, so many important issues.  When I look at the issues, my values need to line up with them.  God will let rise and fall who He will.  He is the author of this life.  If I try to go against His will where will I be?  (Not that I am anywhere perfect in that area…I am human too…and very thankful He has patience with me!)

One of the issues that is closest to my heart is that of abortion.  A lot of people write me off as having a biased opinion since we lost a child before birth.  They think it helps me legitimize Joshua’s life as a real life.  I call that a pretty bogus thought for two reasons.  One is that I have been prolife passionate since I was in middle school…not brainwashed by anyone, just a passion God put in my heart.  Two, Joshua’s life is legitimate and I don’t need anyone who doesn’t want to believe that to change their mind for me.  I pray that their hearts may someday change, but it doesn’t make or break my life.

Children, sadly, have never been seen as holding great value.  In the time when Jesus was on earth He made a point to tell people that they need to care for children, to accept them and that they are to be valued.

Mark 9:35-37

35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

If it is important enough to be in the Bible, important enough for Jesus to speak of, then it probably is pretty important as a voting issue.  Just something to consider on the way to the polls…

Forgiveness

I am not an expert on things of the Bible.  I don’t think I pretend to be.  I am not afraid to admit that there are some things that are tough to swallow when following the ways of Christ.  However, despite all of that, I am eager to learn more about Him and I trust Him to know better than me.  His ways are higher than mine.  My lack of understanding is because of my imperfections, not because of His.

One of the things many Christians struggle with is forgiveness.  It is pretty easy to forgive someone for an accident, but I am talking true ‘lay down the sword’ forgiveness.  My biggest struggle isn’t forgiving people who hurt me, but rather people who hurt those I love, or people who hurt children.  But we must forgive.  And we must pray that they change.  We are called to minister to them just as much as we are called to minister to the little old lady next door who always bakes us apple pies.

Whenever I think about murderers, abusers, etc, I think of a few things.  First of all, it is not my place to judge where they will spend eternity.  While we are not called to condone, accept, or agree with their choices…in fact we are called to speak truth against their choices and hold them accountable…we are not the judges of their forever fate.  Second of all, I am far from perfect, and the deepest sins that Jesus knows about me are no better than the ones that we all know about public sinners.  Third, while some people are completely aware of the evil they do, others are not completely…some were raised from birth to think it okay to hurt those who don’t agree with them.  Some have not found Jesus yet and do not realize how wrong they are.  This doesn’t make them innocent.  No…none of us our innocent, but prayers and forgiveness are for everyone.  I also thank God that by His grace alone, I am not under the mindset that murder and abuse is the right path to take.  Finally I think about the length of eternity.  We cannot even comprehend the length of time eternity is.  And for someone to suffer for that long helps me pray for everyone.

Again, please know I am not condoning these people or their actions.  I have not been in the position to have to forgive someone who hurt my family in a severe way.  I have had to forgive people who have hurt my family in a less severe way though.  I don’t know how I would respond in the situation, but I pray that I would be able to forgive and love as Jesus would call me to do.  I am not at all claiming it would be easy.

When I think about people around the world hurting others, especially children, the only way I can make it make sense is if I relate it to “Divergent.”  Yes, my favorite movie!  There is a part of the movie where people are put under a trance and in this trance are programmed to do things that they normally would be against.  When they come out of the trance they are appalled at what they have done.  I think of the unsaved as being in the trance and if we can reach them, maybe they can come out of the trance, stop hurting people, and help save others.

In a world of Sauls, let’s pray for some conversions to Pauls.

10.28.14

Yes I am still here!  Life just recently exploded (nothing serious, just time crunches all around)  🙂

First of all, I want to start with this verse that came in my email a few days ago.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

Talk about a convicting verse!  All of our thoughts and attitudes are judged by our SINLESS, PERFECT, Master and Creator.  If only we could remember that every day.  Remember that not only do we not have any right to judge another no matter how “bad” that person may seem, but how do we stand before our perfect maker knowing that He knows our innermost thoughts, feelings and secrets.  We are not called to judge, but we can hold each other accountable…there is a fine line there we must be careful not to cross.

Something else I have been convicted by for quite some time is prayer for children.  I have been a pro-life advocate for as long as I remember, but it goes beyond that.  We need to do everything we can for children all over the world.  Some of us can help them in a tangible way, some in a monetary way, some with prayer.  I feel that kids need to be the forefront of prayer…our own childrens’ eternity, babies not to be aborted, girls who are sold, children who are bullied, children who are abused, bullied, taken advantage of, and even killed.  Children need to know real love, real hope, real faith.  They need to know their loving Father through Him and through us, through prayers and through hugs, through warmth and through clothing, through kindness and through honesty, and through safety.  Let’s keep them in solid and consistent prayer.

Now, I also was supposed to put health and fitness on here too, so moving onto that, which is significantly less important than what I have typed above…BUT…we do need to take care of our temples, too…so here we go…

I have been doing pretty well with calories and workouts…I now have a Christmas party to add to the motivation list.  😉  Even if your calories don’t change, you will feel so much healthier if you switch soda for water and add some green veggies.  Health is the key, remember.  Health and toning is the goal!  If you have ever heard the saying “Abs are Made in the Kitchen” that is correct.  Granted you have a bit more leeway if you are working out hardcore, but part of being toned is what you put in your stomach.  Some foods will help shed fat, while others will put a nice fat layer over those muscles you worked so hard to achieve.  Switching up workouts also keeps your muscles on their toes.  I have been adding some cardio boxing into the mix, which has been great!  Constant moving, squats, arm and back muscles active, and very fun!

OK, off to tackle the day!  Enjoy yours!

10.15.14

I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.

Isaiah 43:11-12

I have been reading “Prodigal God” and it is very good at drilling home that we all need a Savior.  The man on death row is no more a sinner than the man who has hate in his heart.  The woman who “works at night” is no more a sinner than the woman who lied.  Many of us know this, but how often do we truly believe it?  Do you know that you are as much a sinner as the people you judge?  Do you know, really know, that nothing you do will get you into Heaven?  Do you know that the person on this earth that you despise is a child of God?  We need to put our judgments away, we need to repent of our own sins, we need to pray for EVERY soul on this earth to change for Him.  And more than anything else, we need to trust Him, our Savior, our Lord, the Creator.  Our lives will be filled with joys and trials, but our life is the tiniest blip compared to eternity.  And He is waiting for us, all we have to do is knock.

God and the world

The world is a mess.  I don’t know of many people who deny that.  Morals have become distorted, God is forbidden in some places (apparently by those who think He can be told what to do), and people are more selfish than they have ever been it seems.  In the midst of the craziness our job is to TRUST HIM.

We trust Him in our lives, with our marriages, with our children, with our homes and our jobs.  We need to TRUST HIM.  That does not mean that our lives will go exactly as we want them to go.  He has warned us in His Word that we will have trouble in our lives.  It does mean that when everything falls apart we still trust that He is good all the time.

When families crumble, when people leave, when children die, when loved ones do not turn to Him, when commitments are broken, when our hearts our broken, we still hold onto His promises that …

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

and

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)

In this world that is a crazy mess, He has already overcome.  Our job is to trust Him, to let His light shine and to take as many people as we can to Heaven with us…where the pain will stop…where we will be forever if we know Him and follow His ways.
