11.6.14

Yes, yes, yes, I know.   Promises to be here every day.  I know.  But, I have been saving up verses and will tell you why in a moment.  I am not making any more promises to be on here every day, but I will try very hard to be.  😉

We have had 3 pipe semi-flooding incidents in the last 3 weeks…none connected, all annoying, all time consuming.  I have been knocked down for the past week with gall bladder issues, which has made the eating and exercising thing a bit tricky.  Ironically it hit when I was eating my healthiest, but I am not usually unhealthy (I do not deprive myself of a good burger or milkshake on occasion, but I am generally not in those situations), we are the typical chicken, fruit and veggie family.  Boring, yes, healthy, yes.

So health first…I have not exercised in about a week.  Hoping to start today.  I hadn’t been sleeping…like, at all…so getting on a treadmill was daunting and lifting weights…well, let’s just say I feared dropping things on my head.  😉  I have been great with calories now that I am afraid of food, which you would show on the scale.  I am not worried about losing weight right now…truly…but ya know, an added perk to being sick is usually losing weight.  I think I lost an ounce.  My body is just quite out of whack these days.

Enough about me, I have had some wonderful verses (yes, they are all wonderful) come to my email through my daily verse website and I wanted to share.

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.  2 Corinthians 3:6

Jesus is the only way we can enter His Kingdom and have eternal life.  Following every law to the “T” will not get us there.  Now, that does not mean you should break laws just because His forgiveness abounds.  If we are one with Christ and know the sacrifices He has made for us, we should want to make choices He wants us to make and reach even those who treat us or those we love the worst.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.  1 Peter 2:9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

Sculpted Arms and Healthy Cereal

I am always looking for new workouts, healthy eating tips and things of the like.  I also know my body pretty well, so know my trouble areas (even if others try to make me feel good but saying there are none).  😉

My thighs and my triceps are my toughest areas to tone.  There are different times when they are more in shape than others, but I have a hard time getting that “cut” look if you will.  I finally found a pretty easy arm workout that may actually work.  I am beginning to see small signs that it may actually give me the look I want.  Sooo…I thought I would share.  Enjoy!

I am also very interested in eating healthy, but often cave to the sugar monster.  Sadly once I cave it is difficult to recover.  Sugar is addictive to me…seriously.  blah!  I am a huge fan of cereal, though, but it needs to be treated as a dessert in my opinion.  There is a ton of sugar packed in those boxes.  I am also skeptical of protein cereals, because even those that claim to have a high protein content seem to have double the carbs.  I used to shy away from Kashi thinking it was just the new fad brand, but I am a new fan of their 7 Whole Grains Puffed Rice Cereal…low cal, no sugar, no flour.  Add a banana and some 30 calorie almond milk and you have a filling meal  that is pretty healthy.  🙂  And the 30 calorie almond milk is a winner to me…add cinnamon or vanilla and you have your own non-additive, non-sugar, tasty cereal maker.  I am also a fan of Special K Protein, because while the carbs are still higher than the grams of protein, they are the lowest that I have found.

That’s all for my random Thursday health and workout update.

unconditional

When I run on the elliptical in the morning I like to watch something to keep my mind off running.  😉  It is hard to find new things all the time, but I recently chose the movie Unconditional.  I really like it!  I love that one of the main characters is based on the life of a real life person.  This man changed the lives of so many kids.  I love kids!  So when a person puts his/her comforts on the line to change the lives of our future…well, it is a winning story for me and I highly recommend that you watch it!

Speaking of the elliptical…kind of…I was so good eating healthy since the summer and even through Christmas and New Years, but I got burned out of eating healthy and took a brief hiatus.  Amazing how all that progress can go away so quickly.  😦  Therefore… I am back to healthy starting today.  I had a healthy breakfast and a great run on the elliptical this morning.  I feel good and am actually ready to get back into the healthy routine.  As yummy as being unhealthy can be, my body really doesn’t feel good when I am unhealthy.  So I am ready to feel good again.  🙂

The Birthday Stretch

My daughter officially turned 7 yesterday.  Cannot believe it!  She was a bit confused that after 2 parties, one with the family and one with friends, that she turned 7 on a day with no celebration.  😉  We did give her our gifts and sang to her with a leftover cupcake from her friend party, but  her actual birthday was definitely much lower key than earlier in the week.  I look at her and see how much she is like me when I was her age.  She is beginning to get into music, loves writing and just got her first diary.   Though it is bittersweet watching her grow up, it is definitely a blessing and a wonderful journey.

A peek at her cupcakes:

Matthew 6:28-34

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Pumpkin Bundt Cake

DELICIOUS!

Pumpkin bundt cake

For more spice than pumpkin use about 1/8th of a cup less pumpkin and do 5 dashes of all the starred spices except cinnamon…use 1.5-2 tsp of that.  1 cup margarine or butter tastes better than oil.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon*
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice*
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg*
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger*
  • —-
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup butter, melted and cooled or 1 cup vegetable oil
  • One 15-ounce can solid packed pumpkin or fresh puree
  • —-
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, lightly toasted

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour bundt cake pan. In a large bowl with a wire whisk, combine first set of ingredients. In a small bowl, combine last set of ingredients. Hand whip until combined. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Pour into prepared bundt cake pan. Bake 45 to 50 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove  from pan and finish cooling on rack.

I used this frosting:

CINNAMON FROSTING

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon milk

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix ingredients to make the glaze while cake is baking. Let cool completely. Drizzle with glaze.  Use enough milk to get to consistency of drizzle

clean eating

I began following the Quick and Clean Diet today!  So far so good.  I LOVE the protein smoothie…1 cup of strawberries, 1 scoop vanilla whey and 6 oz egg whites.  It is actually filling, sweet and creamy…pretty good.  I have dinner left…shrimp salad.  I also did my cardio and static exercises for the day.  Hoping for the best!  🙂

weekly update

The human body amazes me.  So much progress made last week (likely all water weight) and seemingly all because I had no allergic reactions.  I had reactions more days than not this week and almost all of the weight is back on.  People can say what they want about water weight, but when it doesn’t belong there, you want it gone.  It is real weight, it does effect the tightness of clothes and make a stomach unrecognizable.

The dr. is pretty sure that it is yellow dye and carmel coloring and I am pretty sure I agree.  The only unexplained phenomenon right now is apples.  Because I did not test positive to them with the scratch test.  However, so many storebought items that make me sick contain yellow dye.  I have to be better about reading labels.  I did not even expect it to be in italian dressing or vanilla frosting.  Just another reason to make my own food at home.  😉

So I am discouraged again this week after such a success last week.  I still have 10-14 pounds to go to reach my goal.  My workouts are great…have a few intense ones that I love… and if I tape my foot most of the day I can do a lot with it.  There are swelling days and normal days, but in general all is well.  I guess I can say the same about food at this point.  Swelling days and non-swelling days.

I think after the extreme weight losses and gains and swellings my body has been through I can rationalize the point I am at now.  But, no more excuses.  I have a game plan that is healthy, slow and steady, and yellow dye free.  I am hoping the results come now and stay.

Be back next week!

Champagne and Feet

Last night my awesome cousin and her husband took us to an awesome champagne bar!  Very cool.  I am not a big drinker, but I do like champagne, so ordered a champagne cocktail with strawberry something in it.  SO GOOD!  Then also ordered a scrumptious s’mores crepe…may be the best thing I ever ate.  I seriously wanted to move the place into my basement.

Because of that and the birthday party we had prior to, my foot was not wrapped at all yesterday and I am feeling it today.  I feel so old between the tendinitis and the food allergies or whatever is making my body react, but the fact that neither is serious is awesome…can’t keep me down.  😉  No complaining…really…when I was on the elliptical the other morning after the sermon I was listening to they showed a clip of a girl that was sold into human trafficking.  The degrees of suffering in this world are so great…I was reminded again that I have no right to be upset about little things in life…at least not dramatically upset…a little frustration may come out at times.  No use creating drama when there is enough real drama in the world already.

And my tangent post is done, but if you have a champagne bar anywhere in your vicinity, I would highly recommend!
