Merry Christmas!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Prayer

I am convicted as I type this, as I know that I do not spend enough time in serious prayer with the Lord.  I do feel like I am in communication with Him throughout the day, but I need to fall at His feel, give Him my life, and praise Him continuously in prayer.  I need to know that He already knows my prayers, my wants, my needs before I come to Him and I need to pray His will be done and trust that He knows better than I.

How about you?  How are you in your prayer life?  Rev. Billy Graham (my father in law sent me the whole article that you can check out http://cnsnews.com/mrctv-blog/michael-w-chapman/rev-billy-graham-america-just-wicked-sodom-and-gomorrah-ever-were) recently said, “I tell you, history could be altered and changed again if people went to their knees in believing prayer.”

How often do we believe that God will answer prayer?  How often to we truly trust Him to do His will, which may not be what we think the answer is?  How often do we pray beyond our bubble…praying for our leaders (whether or not we agree with them), our country’s future, our world?

I encourage you all to make it your lifestyle to go to the Lord in real prayer many times a day.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6

Mary, the mother of Jesus, is amazing.  She is amazing because of God.  God gave her the strength to live a life full of indescribable joy and indescribable heartache.  None of us can comprehend the courage she needed.  No one can comprehend being the parent of God.  However, Mary is not God, she is not Jesus, you cannot get to Heaven by praying to Mary.  Jesus Himself tells us that He is the only way.  THE ONLY WAY.  Please know that while Mary should be honored, she should not be an idol and she cannot be a replacement for Jesus.  He is the WAY…follow HIM and He will make your paths straight.

Don’t wanna be a Pharisee
‘Cause they’re not fair you see
Don’t wanna be a Pharisee

My friends and I are doing the Prodigal God (by Timothy Keller) Bible Study.  It is very convicting…pointing out that the Prodigal Son is not only about the wayward son, but even more so about the older brother.  The older brother is too prideful, jealous, unforgiving and angry to go into the feast at the end of the parable.  We have to be careful not to be too judgmental or too prideful, as well as being careful not to break all the rules living wildly because we know that we have forgiveness waiting in abundance.  There is a fine line and middle ground between the younger brother and older brother, but no matter what, we can do nothing without Jesus.  He is the only way for any of us to live with Him forever.  We need to surrender ourselves to Him completely and totally and follow His will.  He gave everything for us.

7.24.13

Matthew 6:28-34

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

7.23.13

Matthew 6:25-27

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

6.12.13

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be  in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

John 14:15-18

Someone recently told me the true litmus test on your relationship with Christ is obedience.  If you love Him you will obey Him.  This may sound easy, but it is not.  Every thought, every action, every attitude has to be Christ centered.  We will fail, but we must ask Him to give us the grace and the strength to do His will.  He will bring us closer to Him and closer to how He wants us to be.  We cannot do it alone, we must give it all to Him, trust Him and obey.
