10.28.14

Yes I am still here!  Life just recently exploded (nothing serious, just time crunches all around)  🙂

First of all, I want to start with this verse that came in my email a few days ago.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

Talk about a convicting verse!  All of our thoughts and attitudes are judged by our SINLESS, PERFECT, Master and Creator.  If only we could remember that every day.  Remember that not only do we not have any right to judge another no matter how “bad” that person may seem, but how do we stand before our perfect maker knowing that He knows our innermost thoughts, feelings and secrets.  We are not called to judge, but we can hold each other accountable…there is a fine line there we must be careful not to cross.

Something else I have been convicted by for quite some time is prayer for children.  I have been a pro-life advocate for as long as I remember, but it goes beyond that.  We need to do everything we can for children all over the world.  Some of us can help them in a tangible way, some in a monetary way, some with prayer.  I feel that kids need to be the forefront of prayer…our own childrens’ eternity, babies not to be aborted, girls who are sold, children who are bullied, children who are abused, bullied, taken advantage of, and even killed.  Children need to know real love, real hope, real faith.  They need to know their loving Father through Him and through us, through prayers and through hugs, through warmth and through clothing, through kindness and through honesty, and through safety.  Let’s keep them in solid and consistent prayer.

Now, I also was supposed to put health and fitness on here too, so moving onto that, which is significantly less important than what I have typed above…BUT…we do need to take care of our temples, too…so here we go…

I have been doing pretty well with calories and workouts…I now have a Christmas party to add to the motivation list.  😉  Even if your calories don’t change, you will feel so much healthier if you switch soda for water and add some green veggies.  Health is the key, remember.  Health and toning is the goal!  If you have ever heard the saying “Abs are Made in the Kitchen” that is correct.  Granted you have a bit more leeway if you are working out hardcore, but part of being toned is what you put in your stomach.  Some foods will help shed fat, while others will put a nice fat layer over those muscles you worked so hard to achieve.  Switching up workouts also keeps your muscles on their toes.  I have been adding some cardio boxing into the mix, which has been great!  Constant moving, squats, arm and back muscles active, and very fun!

OK, off to tackle the day!  Enjoy yours!

Insane

I began the Insanity workout program!  I have not done the diet plan with it yet…still contemplating.  It isn’t much different than what I try to do…try being the operative word…except for the shakes.  I enjoy it so far.  Some of it is a love/hate relationship.  I do not think I will go through the whole thing again, but may purchase a few of the dvds to have onhand as alternate workouts.  (I am currently borrowing them from a friend).

My synopsis on the program…

* it makes me sweat a lot

* some of them keep me short of breath

* I hate switch kicks!

* it is a good cardio workout

* I am not seeing the results I thought I would by now

* it is not as insane as I feared…which is good!

* it is good cardio, but I think I need to add to my day’s routine to get the results I am looking for

Will keep you posted if more insane revelations arise.  🙂

weekly update

The human body amazes me.  So much progress made last week (likely all water weight) and seemingly all because I had no allergic reactions.  I had reactions more days than not this week and almost all of the weight is back on.  People can say what they want about water weight, but when it doesn’t belong there, you want it gone.  It is real weight, it does effect the tightness of clothes and make a stomach unrecognizable.

The dr. is pretty sure that it is yellow dye and carmel coloring and I am pretty sure I agree.  The only unexplained phenomenon right now is apples.  Because I did not test positive to them with the scratch test.  However, so many storebought items that make me sick contain yellow dye.  I have to be better about reading labels.  I did not even expect it to be in italian dressing or vanilla frosting.  Just another reason to make my own food at home.  😉

So I am discouraged again this week after such a success last week.  I still have 10-14 pounds to go to reach my goal.  My workouts are great…have a few intense ones that I love… and if I tape my foot most of the day I can do a lot with it.  There are swelling days and normal days, but in general all is well.  I guess I can say the same about food at this point.  Swelling days and non-swelling days.

I think after the extreme weight losses and gains and swellings my body has been through I can rationalize the point I am at now.  But, no more excuses.  I have a game plan that is healthy, slow and steady, and yellow dye free.  I am hoping the results come now and stay.

Be back next week!

weekly update

I feel that since I have started the weekly updates there have been more frustrated posts than not.  Hmmm…maybe I should back off and report back in a year?  😉

So “on paper” I should have lost 1-2 pounds this week based on diet and exercise.  In reality…nope.  It is always so much fun to be hungry and tired at the end of a week and have nothing to show for it.  *sigh*.

I have not been doing as many HIIT routines with my foot…but I found a way to tape it to keep it pretty good on elliptical.  It is much better than it was, but if I use it too much it does still turn into that marshmallow balloon foot.  Still…I did get in my weekly workouts and ate less than normal and still…no progress.

Gave into food today, so back to it tomorrow…strict strict strict.  I am still a bit afraid to start measuring body fat…maybe next week…

See ya back here then 🙂

working out

What do you like to do to keep in shape?

I have had a few conversations lately and am curious to know your favorite routines, HIITS, etc.

I like to switch it up.  I get bored with things like running (yes I did train for a half) and yoga, not because they are easy, because they certainly are not, but because my mind focuses on what I am doing and then I realize I am not enjoying it.

I like weight training  A LOT!  I tolerate running and elliptical because it is great cardio, but I entertain myself with music or tv of some sort.  I really enjoy HIIT routines, but with my aging body those routines often cause aching joints.  Jillian and Cassey Ho are my favorite videos…Jillian for longer and Cassey for shorter targeted areas.  I have also recently gotten into some dancing workout videos, which I am having a lot of fun with!

What do you like?  Let me know below.

weekly update (late) and stuff

I feel slightly guilty or vain ( not sure of the wording) dedicating so much thought to the weekly updates.  Please know I KNOW there are far more important things in the world…pretty much anything.  BUT…being healthy is a good thing and so I will continue to post the updates.

I am still avoiding the scale because my clothes are still tight.  blah!

However, I have gone to 1 dr, gotten my first round of bloodwork underway and have appts for the next dr and bloodwork lined up, so hopefully answers will come soon.  I also know for 100% certainty some food which cause me to swell up, have allergic reactions or both.

Now that those things are under way a bit, the testing and feeling sick stage is over, though I am heavier, I have a better plan.  And part of that plan is to get back on track with normal and healthy eating, consistent eating, consistent workouts.

As of tomorrow I am putting myself on Cassey Ho’s 90 day meal plan.  I will only stay on it as long as I need to get to my goal.  I am also going to do 3 of her mini workouts a day along with elliptical and weight training.  This is not as time consuming as one may think.  Just requires early rising.  Most importantly I am making my goal of devotion/Bible/quiet time to happen before I exercise…start the day right.

I have made a couple modifications to her meals to avoid foods I know I react to.  I will be staying in the 1200-1300 calorie range.  I will be eating primarily veggies and protein with some fruits mixed in.  One day a week I will allow myself a cheat item (not an entire meal).  I really want to get my body back AND get my healthy eating habits back.

Otherwise things here are going well.  We had a few years of people around us falling apart and the past few weeks we have gotten some great news and prayer answers!  🙂

We are beginning to read the Narnia Chronicles to our kids…a little every night starting with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, of course.  We are all enjoying it.

No complaints, but summer is soon, so gotta get in shape!  🙂

weekly update

Frustrated!  So SO so SO frustrated!

So…my calories have been on target.  My workouts have been on target.  My off days have been less off and fewer than normal.  I have lost body fat, BUT have gained weight!  Personal trainers out there…help!  I have been hungry and tired this week especially and my weight it up.

A couple things I am wondering…have I reached the hard to penetrate through plateau? …did my body get so used to my old lifting routine that my muscles drifted away a bit and now that I am on new workout programs they are bulking up and adding weight?  …previously I had backed off a bit on squats and leg press because they made my legs a bit bulkier, but they were toned…could my new leg routine be doing that?

I don’t know, but I am frustrated.  I say that knowing that my BMI is 20.2, and that is SO not bad.  I say that knowing that in the grand scheme of life, this is NO big deal.  I say that knowing that I am blessed to be able to eat and workout.  But I say that knowing I now have even more serious work to do to reach my goal.

So BMI is 20.2

BF% ranges but averages 17%  My lowest reading is 13.9%  Like that one!

Got my waist (natural bend) back to 23 inches…like that too!

My waist at BB…24.5 inches

My stomach below belly button…27 inches

Rest of my measurements remain pretty much the same.

Be back in a week, hopefully not as hungry or tired and hopefully less weight than more.  😛

weekly update

I am finally feeling better…yay!  I was able to get back into a more normal lifting and cardio routine this week.  I have survived 2 Christmas parties since last weekly update and I am still at my 20.4 BMI.  While my goal is taking longer than I initially intended…I am excited that I am still remaining the same or slowly losing, especially in light of all the food around these days.  😉  We will have Christmas and then Christmas #2 and hopefully I won’t have as much food temptation after that.  Be back next week.

Weekly Update

Slight progress has been made…

Pretty much all summer I have been stagnant.  I finally lost a few ounces…ha!  My body fat percentage is still between 15 and 24%, which I am happy with…especially the ones closer to 15.  🙂

My BMI is now between 20.5 and 20.8 pending on the scale.  This is less by a tiny margin of what it was throughout the summer, but it is only back to what I started at when I began this new healthy journey.  However, this is the first week I think I really took it seriously for the whole week (usually I have a few obnoxious cheat-eating days).  This week…no obnoxious eating.  I didn’t follow Brittany Tacy to a T, but I did pretty well.

I watched my diet, upped my weights a good deal, was hungry and tired.  But I made progress.  Small progress is still progress.  And even better than that, I lost an inch off my waist and 1/2 inch off my hips.

My hope is that I continue to be healthy…and that next week I will have even better progress.

Weekly Update

Another boring weekly update…

Stats pretty much the same as last week.

I am not friends with my scale anymore.  However, I know that since I am eating less (a little) and eating better (most of the time) that the numbers on the scale reflect more muscle.  I am the same size. same weight, a little less body fat.  I really wish you could lost weight just in one area, because my caboose is the collecting zone for all my fat.  blah!

I have been experimenting with sugar and may have found that sugar doesn’t like me too much.  When I go without and then have some (like the sampling of my mom’s birthday desserts…ugh!)…my body is not happy.  I may have to be more diligent about avoiding foods with refined sugar.

I also have discovered Brittany Tacy’s workout and diet plan which I have been trying to stick to this week.  I cannot lift as much weight as she can, but I did amp my weights up slightly.  I like that she is toned but doesn’t look manly.  I know that my troubles are more food oriented than workout oriented.  I just need discipline!  😉

As always, here’s hoping for some downward scale progress by this time next week.

🙂
